Urge the FFA Program to Reduce Animal Suffering

  • by: Animal Place

Last November, a man broke into a high school that was housing animals being raised as part of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program. He set a five-month-old calf named Panda on fire, causing severe burns over more than 50% of the calf's body. Panda was left with life-long scars that are still healing.

The worst part of this story is that the teenage student raising the scarred calf for FFA still planned on showing him at the California Mid State Fair and selling him for slaughter!

When surrendering Panda to Animal Place, the student walked him straight to our trailer. Despite all that he had been through, Panda trusted the teenager implicitly, not knowing where the trailer was taking him.

Animals like Panda don't have to suffer in this way. The FFA has great non-animal programs to offer and they could encourage students to work at a sanctuary or dog/cat shelter for the hands-on experience without taking advantage of the animals' trust.

Sign the petition today to urge the FFA program to reduce and eliminate exploitative animal programs and replace them with non-animal programs and those that nurture compassion without the betrayal.
Dear FFA Board of Directors,

I am writing to express my opposition to the FFA's animal-based programs.

I join Animal Place in urging you to reduce and eliminate exploitative animal programs and replace them with non-animal programs and those that nurture compassion for animals without the betrayal.

The FFA has great non-animal programs to offer and you could encourage students to work at a sanctuary or dog/cat shelter for the hands-on experience without taking advantage of animals' trust.
