NO PET PROVISIONS VOID - A provision in a tenancy agreement prohibiting the presence of animals VOID

  • by: Rose Burt
  • recipient: Canadian Provinces and American States that don't above like the Ontario Residential Tenancies Act, 2006

Too many people with pets are being given the option of shelter, food, clothing, transportation etc.
(their ability to live)
OR
the companionship of their pet
(for many - their reason to live or what keeps their will to live strong enough to keep on going especially during tough times).

The Province of Ontario in 2011 had a diverse populatiion of 13,372.996  and the No Pet Clause - Void covering the entire province workes.

Residential Tenancies Act, 2006

S.O. 2006, CHAPTER 17

Consolidation Period:
From June 19, 2012 to the e-Laws currency date.

“No pet” provisions void

14. A provision in a tenancy agreement prohibiting the presence of animals in or about the residential complex is void. 2006, c. 17, s. 14.

I believe this clause needs to be included in the Residential Tenancy laws of every Province and State to make it easier for people with pets to live where they please.

As this is a Provincial and State issue, not Federal or Municipal please start this petition wherever you live if your State or Province does not already have this in their laws.  Since it works for 13,372,996 people of many cultures and backgrounds it's difficult to prove it won't work where you live.

Please take this idea everywhere and start petitions where you live and ask your local state or provincial government representative who to take the petitons to.
If possible, in Canada, make your goal to deliver the petitions to the right representative the day before Canada Day (July 1, 2013) and in the United States deliver it the day before the July 4th celebrations.
