A recent study showed pit bulls have better temperaments than other dogs, disproving perceptions they are a violent or aggressive breed.
Because they're strong, people will use pit bulls in dog fighting operations, resulting in abuse that leads people to believe they're a vicious breed. In reality, pit bulls are smart and they behave as they're trained. In fact, pit bulls were once called "nanny dogs" because they were so good with children!
Now, due to these negative perceptions, some communities are enforcing "breed specific legislation" that bans the breed from that area, discriminating against pit bulls and thwarting the adoption of pit bulls that need homes.
Stand up for this misunderstood breed! Pledge to speak out against breed-specific legislation in your area and fight discrimination against pit bulls.
