Censure Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson

We, the undersigned, request that the US Congress publicly censure Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson for using the tragedy of September 11th to further their own extremist agenda. Jerry Falwell on Pat Robertson's program has openly and publicly blamed the recent terrorist attacks on the ACLU, NOW, People for the American Way, gays, lesbians, abortion providers, pagans and feminists. Even worse, he has done so under the guise a "religious moral leader". Instead of propagating the Christian standards of love and acceptance, he is propagating a moral ethic of hatred and intolerance of your fellow man. What is worse, his efforts illustrate that he is willing to divide the nation at a time when it needs unity. His comments encourage hatred, distrust and scapegoating. We cannot allow this behavior to stand unnoticed.

In addition, with the tragedy that befell our country on September 11th there is enough fanaticism, hatred and intolerance. We believe that hate-filled fanatics, like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, are a continuing danger to our country and to the freedom and well being of people across the world. We can no longer allow people to prop themselves up on a tower of hate-filled lies. Such behavior in the past has had devastating consequences, from Hitler's Nazi Germany to the events of 9.11.01. The kind of slanderous statements that Jerry Falwell has made are the same rhetoric of hate that act to destroy the freedoms and liberties which are the American Way.

The innocent people who were killed on September 11th died because of hate. We call upon you, our political leaders, to do whatever is in your power, to use your influence within the religious community, to use your influence with your fellow Americans to encourage a national condemnaton of Jerry Falwell and his slanderous lies and his colleague in hate, Pat Robertson.
