NO to Budget Cuts in Education! - Full Funding for California's Schools!

Target: California Governor Gray Davis and California Legislature
Sponsor: Concerned Parent
  • Signatures: 9,491
  • Goal: 10,000
  • Deadline: 6-19-2003
We say "NO!" to the proposal to cut $843 million already allocated to the 2001-2002 California education budget and"NO!" to any cuts in education in the next state budget. We will not accept cuts in our children's future.

California already ranks near the bottom in per-capita state education spending. All schools and all students would suffer from these budget cuts. These cuts would exacerbate inequality between rich and poor schools and deteriorate already unacceptable conditions in poor, majority black and Latino schools. We want equal and quality education for all students!

The children and youth of California are our state's most precious resource. We will not accept cuts in our children's future.

SIGN NOW AND ENSURE A BETTER EDUCATION FOR OUR CHILDREN!

Taking away funding from schools will lead to the closing of schools and a lack of education for children, basically condemning them.

9,480 11:21 pm PDT, Apr 26 Ms. Anonymous 0 Monterey Park California MKHS Student Surely people must realize that when there is a budget cut in education, the first thing to so is the ARTS programs. Many a school district will be cutting valuable arts programs (which adhere to development of many, many different aspects not limited to singing or drawing) in order to adjust to the budget cut. Schools are already turning away students because they don't have enough money to support the large number of students seeking enrollment in private school because there is not enough room in classes. Budget cuts only serve to make this worse. Why jeopardize the education of the country's future? California is already ranked 49th in the country, and here we are, reducing money for education. With this statistic in mind, funding for schools should be increased, not cut! Thanks to this, my school's auditorium is probably never going to get fixed and our temporary bungalows are going to become permanent, even if they're not meant to be permanent. Thanks a lot.

To cut almost every Genral Fund Program may seem like a fair resolution to the problem, but will further damage California's already suffering educational system.

NO to Budget Cuts in Education! - Full Funding for California's Schools!

We, students, teachers, parents and community members of California are united in saying "NO!" to the proposal to cut $843 million already allocated to the 2001-2002 education budget and to any cuts in education in the next state budget. The dignity, hope and self-respect of youth, as well as the basic prospects of our collective future depend on education and knowledge.
