New Mexico Needs A Clean Energy Economy For Healthy and Strong Families and Communities.
Right now, New Mexico has the highest rate of child poverty in the country. A budget crisis of historic proportions. High rates of asthma and cancer statewide. High rates of unemployment. Climate pollution that worsens droughts and forest fires that affect us all.
New Mexico must continue pushing towards a low-carbon, socially responsible economy that brings good-paying jobs and lasting economic growth to our state.
One step we can take now is to increase the amount of clean, renewable energy our utilities invest in. That's why we're supporting a bill to require utilities to get 50% of electricity from clean, renewable sources by 2030 and 80% by 2040.
We can do this – New Mexico is the second sunniest state in the country and the 12th windiest. With the support of our decision-makers, we can be the leader we should be in solar and wind energy generation and jobs.
