Stop gobbling up land for government

Target: George Bush, President of the United States
Sponsor: Danny Offerman
  • Signatures: 158
  • Goal: 50,000
  • Deadline: 4-20-2003
Much of the United States land is government owned, and still growing. This is not good in a free society such as ours that treasures private property rights. We urge immediate selling of low priority government land and a giveaway of land to developers who promise to build affordable housing!

151 1:22 pm PST, Feb 17   Sarah e Seeney 59 Female Delaware The government has infringed on our private property the day they landed on our soil..We as native americans we can not undo the advancement of americans or take back land that people privatley own. We should get paid for it... Many people did not know that Indian women owned this land , in so called America. That was {our} laws!! Well not a INDIAN WOMEN signed papers to any so called government. This was land taken illegal in two many ways , one with so called treaties ,sign by indian men who could not even read, and from indain women who really own the land. Then we were diplaced and burned out for self interest no more {teaties}.We were removed from every national park in this nation..We were the real people who did the preserving of the lands that became your national parks today .We did not want industries or private homes on our lands. This government COMMITTED GENOCIDE ,and not a single individual paid . They claim to keep lands today intrust for the orginal people. We are still fighting the government not to sell our lands that is ours ,we fought in wars to save this land too. So many promises were broken. We have had to fight for our own idenity and getting paid for minerals of our own land or get back any lands that this goverment has taken with lies. Oil was discovered in Oklahoma and we were removed from the reseverations (prisons) that were created to put our peoples, For the benefit of the RICH once again. Where does this end ? Talk about indenity theft. Yes the goverment ownes to much land.. Our land.. Even today it is still self enterest to the plundering rich..Its so sad!!!!!!!!!

136 11:22 pm PDT, Jul 20   margot malone 56 Female California YES!!!! I would have "inherited" a beautiful house in Whittier Calif that my mother and uncle owned upon their deaths. But they were forced to sell their home built in the 1920s, a perfectly beautiful example of Craftsman construction, for a "parking lot " for a "private enterprise"...a HOTEL, under "Emminent domain". I thought that was for PUBLIC projects, not private interests. I am 56 now, my uncle has died, my mother is 76. I can't even afford to get her a trailor for her old age. And will I ever have a house...who can afford one anymore. And that lovely house is gone replaced by a couple of eyesore parking spaces. We desperately need affordable not apartment housing...but HOMES...HOUSES. I have not been able to afford one since my divorce in the mid eighties. YES. You need to let those of us who cannot afford the high costs of home ownership have a break. A land lottery would be a great idea. A gigantic giveaway of land....for US citizens ONLY PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

Stop gobbling up land for government

Dear President Bush,

The federal government owns a huge amount of land in the United States, and it grew even further during the Clinton administration due to national monument declarations, and land grabs.. This has infringed on the rights of private property owners and is against what our free society stands for. We the people urge a sell-off of all low-priority government owned land to U.S. residents, and a giveaway of land to developers of low income housing. Selling off land will also raise money for the government to cut down the budget deficit.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
