Don't Budget Cut Kid's Futures: Save Early Education Programs

Too often children start school at a disadvantage because they didn't have access to good early childhood education. But now -- just as the economic downturn has left more parents than ever struggling to provide their children with an education -- states across the U.S. are cutting funds for vital early education programs like Head Start.

Research has consistently shown that students, especially disadvantaged youth, benefit tremendously from access to early education programs. Without access to programs like Head Start, many students arrive at their first day of school already unprepared to succeed.

But as it becomes harder and harder for parents to afford good educational opportunities, state budgets across the country are slashing early education funding.

These children didn't cause the current economic downturn, and we can't let politicians cut costs at their expense. Tell your governor that we can't afford to fix the budget on the backs of students.
Dear Governor,

Too often children start school at a disadvantage because they didn't have access to good early childhood education. Thanks to our struggling economy, more parents than ever are struggling to afford good education for their children. Just as we need their services the most, though, Head Start and other early education programs are facing huge budget cuts.

Studies consistently show that access to good early education is strongly connected to future student success. Our school systems are already struggling without budget cuts leading to an even greater achievement gap between younger and younger students.

Our children didn't cause this economic downturn, and we can't afford to balance the budget on their backs. Please, don't cut funding for Head Start and other vital early education resources.
