Please STOP the SLAUGHTER and transport of HORSES.

President Obama recently signed into law a spending bill that restores the American horse-slaughter industry by opening up any slaughterhouses to U.S.D.A. inspections. For some time horses have been shipped out of the country to Canada and Mexico for slaughter. This in itself is unbearable. But,as of the date of Obama's signing, the horses in the United States will now find the end of their lives in slaughterhouses here. Both the transportation to other countries and the opening of slaughterhouses in the States are unconscionable and need to be stopped. This petition is from concerned U.S. citizens who ask President Obama to find a way to stop outright the transportation of horses to Canada and Mexico for slaughter and to also stop the developement of any slaughterhouses in here the U.S. . We must find an alternative means to handling the obstacles faced regarding the equine species. A truly civilized nation would never allow these beautiful creatures to suffer in this way. Horses are sentient and intelligent animals who deserve our respect and our protection.

Mr. President and the United States Department of Agriculture;

Please note the signatures provided here regarding the opening of slaughter house's in the U.S.and the transport of horses outside thee U.S. for slaughter. Though I do not have thousands of signatures it is very clear that the vast majority of citizens vehemently oppose the slaughter of horses. There is no humane approach of slaughter, horses are sensitive and cognizant creatures. Please put a clear end to any form of this possibility here in the states and elsewhere. We cannot implore you enough.

There must be a humane way to deal with the problems of over- population and abandonment. To be truly "civilized", we must use our heads and our heart and not an outstretched palm.

We thank you for your efforts to bring this issue to a reasonable and civilized close.

Sincerely,
D. Stark
