An upcoming TV series, "Greatest Show on Earth", promises a "behind-the-scenes" look at the legendary Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. But the real story is that Circus staff regularly abuse and torment performing elephants with bull hooks, chains and other devices.
The abuse of Ringling Bros. circus elephants -- well documented by animal welfare organizations, state humane agencies, and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspectors -- violates both the federal Endangered Species Act and the Animal Welfare Act, which prohibit the abuse of endangered animals used in entertainment.
Many have witnessed routine violent abuse and cruelty toward the elephants, including frequently hitting the elephants with bull hooks, rubbing dirt into sores of elephants to conceal their wounds, and routinely chaining the elephants on concrete or in cramped rail cars for many hours of every day and night.
This kind of cruelty is not entertainment -- contact TNT and urge them to cancel the "Greatest Show on Earth" series.

This program has no business being aired UNLESS it tells the TRUTH. If it's going to make the circus look good and hide the truth, I will stop watching TNT along with everyone I can convince to as well. I can also contact the advertisers and plead for them to pull their ads during that show.

I've seen a lot of videos about elephants in the circus and they all point to the fact that they don't belong there because they are abused as well as the big cats! Please don't air this show!

I disagree with the abuse of elephants,it's intolerable,& it's wrong.How would you like it if someone abused your house pet? Then the shoe would be on the other foot,wouldn't it? Wee,that's how I feel about the abuse of elephants...It's just not right & it shouldn't be done...

Dear Mr. Koonin, This sickens me. Just because we can prositute the whole planet and everything on it for profit does not make it right. It is time for sensible, thinking people to voice there strong opposition to caging animals for our entertainment ($$$$profit). As a college educated professional I will do all I can to pay attention to who I will need to boycott and who's purse I need to hurt. Sadly, it seems the only thing that makes the "powers to be" pay attention is hurting their bottom line.
