Protect Polar Bears!

The Alaskan Arctic is home to incredible wildlife, from majestic polar bears, walruses, and other iconic species. But the wild home for these amazing species is vanishing with terrifying speed.

And right now, Shell is planning drill in the Arctic as soon as next year -- putting the lives of polar bears and more at risk of deadly oil spills. Just one misstep by Shell could doom this fragile habitat forever -- and the harsh conditions would make responding to such a disaster almost impossible.

Time is running out for the Arctic – and for the polar bears that depend on this environment for survival. That’s why your voice is needed.

Take action today and join our campaign to protect the Arctic. Send an urgent message to President Obama, urging him to make sure Shell is not allowed to drill in the Arctic next year.

Dear President Obama,

Shell Oil has announced its intentions, once again, to start drilling next summer for Arctic oil in the Chukchi Sea. As you well know, letting big oil companies drill for oil means exposing the pristine Arctic ecosystem and its people to a higher risk of being affected by an oil spill, and undermines all efforts done so far to stop runaway climate change.

Shell, in particular, has shown that it is spectacularly untrustworthy in the Arctic. When it tried in 2012, its rig ran ashore, its drill ship caught fire, and the EPA found that its equipment was inadequate to control pollution. We have little reason to believe that Shell can be trusted to drill safely in the Arctic Ocean.

Furthermore, opening up new areas for oil drilling would only speed up the pace of climate change. This fall, over 400,000 people marched in New York City to call for urgent action on our climate. Drilling in the Arctic is a step backwards, not forwards.

President Obama, drilling in the Arctic means opening the door to potentially disastrous oil spills and worsening climate change. Please take action to stop Shell's plans to drill.

Sincerely,
