Health Canada wants to ban all low-carb marketing from appearing on food packaging or in restaurants by December 2005. We want to stop this decision from becoming a reality.

| 1,052 | 5:35 pm PDT, Apr 1 | Ms. | Anonymous | Calgary | There are more franken foods out there that hide under the disguise of "low fat" and "no sugar added" that people are justgetting fatter and fatter. Low carb studies have proven to be a better, heathier lifestyle. The government just took a step back in evolution. |
| 1,051 | 4:35 pm PST, Mar 6 | Anonymous | vancouver | This is a joke. Why do they care if something is labeled as low carb or not? For a "free country" this seems pretty outrageous. | |
| 1,050 | 9:18 pm PST, Jan 19 | Mrs. | Lisa Cowdrey | Sneads Ferry | A low carb diet can be very healthy if approached properly. There are good carbs like the kind in foods such as squash and sweet potatoes, and there are bad carbs such as the kind in white bread. Everyday, I eat a lot of fresh veggies, a moderate amount of lean meat and seafood, a moderate amount of lowcarb fruits such as blueberries, canteloupe, strawberries, some white cheeses such as mozzarella, muenster and monterey cheese, organic yogurt, freshly juiced veggies and/or fruits, and some nuts/seeds such as pecans, walnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. I drink lots of water, some skim milk, homemade juice, and unsweetened organic tea and coffee. The only things I use to cook with are organic butter, coconut oil, and grapeseed oil. I use cold pressed extra virgin olive oil, lemon, garlic and fish oil on my salads. I use Himalayan sea salt rather than table salt. The only supplements I take are an organic whole foods supplement, time-released vitamin C, purified fish oil, and full spectrum all natural vitamin E. The only foods I am not eating are foods like bread, pasta/noodles, and white potatoes. I still occasionally eat a slice or 2 of whole grain bread and sometimes a small cup of long grain rice. My diet regimen is pretty healthy if you ask me and it's low carb! |

You should be blocking potato chips and pop which is proven to have ill effects on peoples health. Or is it in your interest to have sick people in the name of the all mighty dollar that you propably get from the giant junk food companies!! | |

If there is no demand for this product then the supplier will have that option to reduce the number of items that are available. Sine my husband and I have been reducing our carb intake we have never felt better. |
| 1,037 | 7:15 am PDT, May 31 | Mrs. | Lori . | The carb lowered foods are not only lower in carbs but also lower in sugar content! The government has a habit of restricting Canadians without even asking our opinions! | |

| 1,032 | 7:41 am PST, Mar 8 | Anonymous | I think this is insane. We hear constantly on the news that Canadians are overweight and Health Canada has never seen anything like this before. Yet when carb controlled products were introduced sales rose, people started loosing weight and started becoming healthier. Then bang....they were pulled. As a consumer I should have choices in the products I purchase. No wonder people head over to the states to do there shopping. You can rest assured that I will be heading over to bring back my carb option choices. | ||

| 1,030 | 4:17 pm PST, Jan 18 | Mrs. | Anonymous | Mississauga | I have benefited substantialy by following a low carb life style. As it is there is a tremendous shortage of low carb products. We deserve to have a choice and not to be forced to eat low fat. I have tried low fat all my life and never gained any result what so ever. |

| 1,026 | 8:30 am PST, Dec 13 | Ralph Allan | Prince George, BC | I was warning about this 18 months ago when a tiny news item appeared in the local paper. People thought I was kidding. I e-mailed politicians in the major parties are got only one response but no follow-up. I hold out little hope that "Sickness Canada" will relent. They are really covering up the fact that the have been promoting the carb-heavy unhealthy diet for 40 years and can't possibly admit they were wrong!. | |
| 1,025 | 1:07 pm PST, Dec 12 | Helen Dudley | Vancouver | I've missed the deadline, but hope this legislation will be reversed. With the number of people with type 2 diabetes ballooning in Canada, we need to be ENCOURAGING people to eat less sugar and overly refined starch. | |
| 1,024 | 4:01 pm PST, Dec 8 | Mrs. | Anonymous | white rock | its about time that you start respecting the publics decision in how they decide to care for themselves the last thing that we need is a communist country and that is what it is slowly turning into...leave us alone to make our own decisions on what is good for us and what works for us as individuals.....all you politicians at times make me sick with your decisions none of you are trustworthy.....the least you can do is leave us be to decide what it right for us |

| 1,022 | 2:14 pm PST, Nov 28 | Lynn McRae | Vancouver | I have lost 62 lbs in the last ll months and my daughter has lost 70. My son has lost 85 lbs, all by eating a low carb diet. Part of our success has been the fact that we have had options available such as the Atkins low carb products and other low carb option products. Please do some more research if necessary but do not pass this legislation banning low-carb marketing. | |
| 1,021 | 7:17 pm PST, Nov 25 | brian handal | houston | What difference does it make there is a lot of bad products inthe market that no matter what they said we still eat them ., so i think let the people decide if the want to buy them with or without a label... | |

| 1,019 | 7:52 pm PST, Nov 18 | ZoAnn Morten | North Vancouver | The ability to see the number of carbs on product labels has allowed us the freedom to pursue the lifestyle of our choice. We learn of healthy eating choices through government programs, here we try to achieve the goal and or ability to check on the progress of our eating patterns is going to be hindered by this same government. For company’s that are fighting this, I used to buy your products for my higher carb children, but will curtail my purchasing as of now. | |
| 1,018 | 2:18 pm PST, Nov 17 | Anonymous | it is unresonable to disallow "low carb" lables but support a legion of " low fat" and " low cholesterol" labels | ||
| 1,017 | 8:36 pm PST, Nov 10 | Anonymous | Edmonton | Health Canada is seriously misguided if they think that carbohydrates count is not important with respect to diet and health. | |
| 1,016 | 7:48 am PST, Nov 9 | Anonymous | I believe this latest developement in the government's strategy against false labeling hasen't been researched properly at all and is simply put, another knee-jerk reaction to demand. | ||
| 1,015 | 2:31 pm PST, Nov 8 | Thelma Douglas | White Rock, British Columbia | Absolutely ridiculous...I need to know this information...I have been low carbing for 5 years now and have never been in better health | |
| 1,014 | 2:02 pm PST, Nov 8 | Tara McIntosh | Port Moody | Our Government needs to be sued for lack of common sense. | |
| 1,013 | 11:59 am PST, Nov 7 | Debbie Graham | Ottawa | It is ludicrous that the Federal Government chooses to dictate what a food manufacturer puts on their product labels. If references to carbs is banned, then so should all references regarding fat and fibre! What's the difference???!?!?!? | |
| 1,012 | 9:29 am PST, Nov 4 | James Fraser | Whitby | ||
| 1,011 | 11:25 am PST, Nov 1 | Anonymous | Hamilton | This is horrible, there must be some type of intrest group involvement from the bread industry for the government do be doing this. I hope you guys can get this changed. | |
| 1,010 | 6:19 pm PDT, Oct 28 | Beverly Hudema | Calgary | Rather than prohibit the use of "Low Carb" on labelling, the government should be working with the food industry to come up with labelling standards just as they have for "Low Fat". | |
| 1,009 | 12:01 am PDT, Oct 25 | jeff linnen | vernon BC | low carb rocks!! | |
| 1,008 | 11:25 pm PDT, Oct 24 | Tana pickering | vernon BC | please dont take this away from us !!! | |
| 1,007 | 10:54 pm PDT, Oct 22 | CHRIS BROWN | DELTA, BC | Company's advertise that their product is low fat and often times it's FULL of sugar which is very unhealthy, then why can't company's advertise that their product is low carb. IT' VERY UNFAIR | |
| 1,006 | 10:48 pm PDT, Oct 20 | Frederick KUBE | Come on guys, lets get real and stop censuring food labels! | ||
| 1,005 | 3:06 pm PDT, Oct 20 | Anonymous | I'm a dedicated low-carber and feel robbed by the government...putting net carbs on labels doesn't put anyone at risk...it doesn't promote ANY lifestyle...but it facilitates choices that we, the consumers make...how patronizing...government's role is to protect consumers from false labelling and/or false claims. There is nothing false about the labelling, and no claim is made. PROTEST LOUDLY...we are having choices taken away...it is not illegal to consume low-carb foods...in whatever quantities and combinations we choose... | ||
| 1,004 | 6:44 pm PDT, Oct 19 | Caryanne Davidson | Surrey | I have lost 65 pounds so far by a low carb diet only. I have 20 pounds left to go. I can't stand not being able to have low carb products at my finger tips as it is. I have to cross the border just to get what I need. We have to have "Low Carb" products in Canada, that's it. | |

| 1,002 | 3:52 pm PDT, Oct 18 | Linda Luider | Kelowna | Labelling requirements have prevented Canadians access to an abundance of exceptional products- this has to stop!I'm tired of being toldwhat I, as a consumer- can or cannot buy! | |

Halt the Legislation Banning Low-Carb Marketing
Health Canada’s legislation to ban low-carb labeling on foods is based on uneducated opinions and inaccurate information. We, the Canadian people, collectively agree that we do not need the Canadian Government to dictate what we are allowed to purchase. We feel that as an educated, informed society, we are capable of making decisions based on our own knowledge-base. By signing our name to this petition, we protest the legislation that limits our freedom of choice, a decision that was based on the opinions of misinformed politicians.
