Increase Resources to Combat Child Sex Tourism

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Care2
For many children around the world, their early years are far from the safe, supportive environment they require to give them the best possible start in life. As well as the threats from poverty, disease, violence and war, children face commercial exploitation by adults.

More than two million children are enslaved in the global commercial sex trade, and alarmingly US tourists account for quarter of child sex tourists worldwide.

Sexual exploitation is a terrible thing. These children are severely wounded physically and emotionally. Many acquire diseases such as HIV/AIDS, and almost all experience rejection by their families and communities in addition to fear, shame and despair.

Congress passed The Protect Act of 2003 that made it illegal to sexually exploit children overseas. However, this a global problem that cannot be solved by just making it illegal. Without increased resources to support efforts to identify and prosecute perpetrators sex trafficking of children will continue.

Help give children the best possible start in life - ask Congress to increase resources to combat child sex tourism.

Worldwide there are more than two million children enslaved in the global commercial sex trade. And alarmingly, US citizens account for 25% of child sex tourists.

With the passage of The Protect Act of 2003, the U.S. Congress better equipped the Department of Justice and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to prosecute U.S. citizens who sexually exploit children overseas. However, without increased resources to support the efforts of these agencies and the NGOs that they partner with, it will be difficult to identify and prosecute more than just a small percentage of the perpetrators.

Please help give children the protection they need by increasing resources to combat child sex tourism.

Sincerely,

American citizens who sexually assault children overseas are criminals and rapists and should be identified and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Countries that are sources, transits and destinations for slave sex traffiking should be held accountable. The U.S. should ban tourism in the nations that enable atrocities against children. This would include chief offenders--Thailand, Nigeria and the Netherlands. Anything less by the United States is to condone and to perpetuate these life destroying crimes against innocent people who are unable to defend themselves. Shame on America.

How can anyone think that this is not the most important thing we need to solve on this planet? What are politicians talking about? Why do they never address these issues?

Sex Tourism is deplorable. We not only need to sign petitions, but we also have to be willing to participate in an active removal and relocation program for these children who are being exploited and mistreated.

It is an unfortunate reality that we live in a world with people ;if they may be called that; who commit such acts and it is up to us as responsable adults to try to change things. I believe in and it harm none do what ye will so I do not often judge others but this is the lowest form that humanity can attain and should not be allowed to exist.
