Candidates, Where Do You Stand on Fair Pay for Women?

Target: Bob Schieffer, Presidential Debate Moderator
Sponsored by: Care2.com

In their decision, Ledbetter v. Goodyear, the U.S. Supreme Court made it harder for women and other victims of pay discrimination to fight for their right to equal pay.

It's incredible that in 2008, women in the United States still make only 77 cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts. And in these economically troubling times, that's putting many women and families even deeper in the hole.

This is a national issue that deserves national attention, particularly from the presidential candidates.

Have the presidential candidates address this issue during their debate. "Senators, what would you do to support a woman's right to fair pay for equal work?"

It amazes me that in 2008, women still make less than their male counterparts even though they work just as hard. And with the recent Supreme Court's decision in Ledbetter v. Goodyear, it just got harder for women to fight for their fair share.

The Fair Pay Act would've remedied the situation, and it passed the House, but earlier this year, the Senate voted down the measure.

Something needs to be done, especially in these troubling economic times. Women and families are suffering, and we need to know what the presidential candidates plan to do to help.

[Your comments]

During the debate, please ask Senators Obama and McCain about the Fair Pay Act and what they plan to do help women claim their right to fair pay for equal work.

Sincerely,
