President Obama: Stop Pebble Mine

  • by: WWF

It’s now a fact. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, the proposed Pebble Mine project would have serious negative impacts on salmon and native Alaskan cultures in and near Bristol Bay, Alaska. Isn't it time we stop this project in its tracks?

Tell President Obama to stop the Pebble Mine project by initiating the 404C process. Doing so would likely put an end to a 10-year fight against what would be the largest open-pit mine in North America while protecting Bristol Bay—home to the world's largest sockeye salmon fishery.

We must stand together to defend one of America’s most pristine watersheds from this hazardous project.
Dear President Barack Obama,

As a supporter of wildlife and helping local communities, I want to encourage you to put an end to the proposed development of Pebble Mine in Alaska. Please use your authority under the Clean Water Act to initiate the 404C process.

The negative impacts of the proposed mine were made clear in a report published by your administration in January. "An Assessment of Potential Mining Impacts on Salmon Ecosystems of Bristol Bay, Alaska" includes sound and comprehensive science that makes it clear that larger-scale sulfite-producing mega mines, especially the proposed Pebble Mine, should not be allowed in Bristol Bay.

With your leadership, we can take this important step and prevent the inevitable damage that would be caused by the Pebble Mine.

Sincerely,
