Petition for the government to debate stronger regulation of Estate Agents, particularly with regard

Having had a less than smooth experience with several major Estate Agents, I was struck that the process of attempting to rent privately with them is very difficult, ad-hoc in nature and geared towards obtaining the quickest financial outcome for the agent and landlord, with very little regard for the potential tenants or their time / money. The process followed is opaque and unfair, properties in popular residential areas are often let within hours of listing, making it impossible to find a suitable home, unless willing to take a property blindly with very little information and without viewing. As the problems with the congested and incredibly overcrowded market look set to remain for some time, the government should consider implementing guidelines and binding agents to a clear system which is fairer for all. With the level of regulation placed on banks, it's only fair that Estate Agents and private landlords should be made to be just as accountable, more driven by customer service and less by profit.
