Greater Yellowstone Wolves Delisted - Protest Now!

Target: U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
Sponsored by: Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund
The Bush/Cheney administration has just eliminated federal protections for wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies, opening the door to the slaughter of hundreds of America's most beloved wolves.

This decision leaves the region's wolves at the mercy of outrageous state management plans that could lead to the killing of all but 300 wolves - eliminating 80% of all the wild wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies.

We need to let the Bush/Cheney administration know that we strongly oppose this decision to remove Greater Yellowstone wolves from the list of federally protected threatened and endangered species.

Please sign our petition of protest and demand that the administration reverse its misguided decision and continue protecting Greater Yellowstone wolves under the Endangered Species Act.

GOOD NEWS! Court Restores Federal Protections for Wolves

wolf Over forty thousand Care2 members protested the Bush administration's decision to delist Greater Yellowstone area wolves from the Endangered Species Act in March 2008.

And on July 18, a federal judge restored endangered species protections for wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies.

This victory means that Northern Rockies states must immediately halt further killing of wolves. Already, over 100 wolves had been killed in the short time since wolves were delisted in March.

I am deeply disturbed by the federal government's decision to remove wolves in the Greater Yellowstone and Central Idaho regions from the list of federally protected threatened and endangered species.

I strongly oppose the weakening of protections for these wolves and expect the federal government to fulfill its obligation to secure a lasting future in the Northern Rockies for these amazing animals.

Please accept my comments in support of continued Endangered Species Act protection for wolves in the Northern Rockies and immediately reverse this decision to delist these wolves.

Sincerely,
[Your name here]

It's outrageous to see that after such a short time of being taken of the list people would start hunting again. It upsets the ecosystem, ridding it of a natural predator that helps eliminate defective animals that if let to breed, would only contribute negatively to the gene pool.

Protecting the wolves *IS* protecting the Yellowstone region. You can't mow down a keystone species and expect to preserve the ecology and biodiversity of the area.

After the successful re-introduction that hasrecreated the eco-system it seems manic to again go against nature. We need to live together with all these creatures not destroy them.

Reducing the population to 300 would NOT be responsible stewardship. We humans can coexist with wolves on God's beautiful earth.

Wolves are highly intelligent animals who are deeply social and very tied to the land on which they live. They did not ask to be dragged into the politics of money that surround Yellowstone. They did not ask to be made pawns of the National Park Service. And they are not mindless, emotionless chess pieces to be rearranged at whim.

Wolves contribute to the strength and health of the prey herds on which they feed by culling sick and weak individuals. I worked at Yellowstone at a time when there were no wolf populations there. Their presence ensures a more balanced ecosystem, not to mention the beauty added to the park by their presence.

This is a devastating turn of events . Especially poignant that Limpy was the first wolf to be shot. THis beautiful animal needs our protection from the people who will not be satisfied until it is beyond recovery.THis negates all of the conservation work that has been done .

It's absolutely immoral and heartless to remove the wolves from their federal protection. There is no grounds for doing this and it can only harm this already fragile species. Are you gonna make all our efforts to restore this vital animal be for nothing? These magnificent animals deserve a place in the ecosystem. We need to start learning to live alongside animals.

Wolves are majestic animals and are important to the environment. Wolves need to be protected before they are brought to extinction again. If people were as family oriented as the wolf our country would be in alot better shape.

We need to learn from the Wolves. A wolf pack takes care of themselves. What a good lesson, perhaps we humans should do the same, and we would not be in the mess we are in here in the US

Wolves are wonderful animals and play a very important role in the invironment. Wolves need to be protected or they will be hunted until extinction again.

The wolves were here before we were. They are a part of our heritage not only as a nation, but as humankind. They participate in the balance of nature much more responsibly than our society is doing. We should stop trying to conform nature to our expectations and learn from it, and that means learning from natural creatures such as the wolves.

The ranchers already have the right to kill wolves who predate their cattle,or be reimbursed through Wildlife protection groups..Also,hunters have nothing to complain about-the moose/deer population hasn't been greater/healthier since before the wolves vanished.Sadly,I believe our countrymen are as ignorant and stupid still as the ones' before who made these animals extinct and still they don't grasp nature's balance..Instead of WASTING BILLIONS of American's taxes on useless space programs to Mars,I think we could/should save the beasts' and our children's futures.. Sincerely,Jason Beaudyne

It's not right that those wolves should be slaughtered by ignorant human beings that can't get a right mind in place. We've spent such a long time bringing back many animals and now the stupid government wants to slaughter them. It's not right that Bush/Cheney is stupidity is getting away with so much crap. Wolves and every other animal that's almost dead was brought back by people who love and care for these animals. They shall never be allowed to murder whats been so hard to bring back. And hunters that wanna kill them are just as ignorant as the brain washing government who wanna slaughter.
