Email Your MP: Join Bryan Rowley in One Last Push to End Polio

Bryan Rowley contracted polio in 1935 when he was just fifteen months old.

In Britain, there are 120,000 people like him, all still living with the devastating effects of this cruel disease.

Today, as Chair of the British Polio Fellowship, Bryan is asking you to join him in One Last Push by urging MPs to end polio once and for all before the next election.

All the data shows it's possible. India is now polio-free. Nigeria (the last country in Africa where polio has never been defeated) hasn't seen a case in over a year. Elsewhere, volunteers and health workers are going the extra mile to get the vaccine (which costs just 9p a dose) through to every child they can.

So One Last Push is here to help make the world polio-free with a campaign that supports the Global Polio Eradication Initiative – a partnership between the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, Rotary International, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Right now, we're at a critical stage. We will only finish the job and wipe out polio completely if every organisation – including the UK government – makes good on its promises.

Bryan's generation has suffered enough. He believes there's no reason why the generation coming after him should have to.

Email your local MP to make sure this government honours its commitment to eradicate polio once and for all.
Dear [Member of Parliament],

This is a simple request.

I'm asking you, as your constituent, to urge the UK Government to keep a commitment it made a while ago: the promise to eradicate polio.

The British government admirably stepped up to help end this disease worldwide by pledging its support for the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

You may well remember the paralysing effects polio had on children in this country right up until the 1980s.

Since then, health organisations have had massive success in pushing it back. India is now polio-free. Nigeria has not seen a case for over a year. And today, polio is on the run and exists only in pockets of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Think about that for a moment. A crippling disease on its last legs. Almost gone for good.

That's exactly why pushing on is crucial.

By the next election in 2020, this government could achieve something previous administrations have only ever dreamed of: consigning polio, just like smallpox, to the history books.

So I'm asking you to raise your voice, urge this Government to keep its promise and not give up until we have got rid of polio everywhere.

I'll thank you because it feels wrong to allow a preventable disease to cause such misery, and for others not to be afforded the vaccination privileges we have. The children who escape the crippling effects of this terrible disease will thank you too.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
