Power California with 100% Renewable Energy by 2030

California has the resources to supply 100% of its electricity needs with renewable sources such as solar and wind. Under current law, the state's utilities must hit a target of 33% renewables by 2020.

Experts at Stanford University have laid out a path to get to 100% clean energy by 2030. California should embrace this ambitious goal and dramatically accelerate its transition to renewables.

A clean, green electricity infrastructure will significantly curb the state's greenhouse gas emissions and provide Californians with green jobs and clean air and water. Clean energy is a sound investment in a sustainable future.

Take action: Tell the California legislature to enact legislation that mandates that 100% of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2030.
Dear [Decision-Maker]:

I'm writing today to urge you to enact legislation that would move California toward powering itself with 100% renewable energy by 2030.

I'm proud of California's clean energy leadership. Current law calls for utilities to power 33% of our electricity grid with renewables by 2020, and the state is on track to meet this target. But we have the capacity to deploy renewables far more quickly.

Stanford professor Mark Jacobson and his team have shown that the entire world could supply 100% of its energy needs with wind, water and solar by 2030. Just last month, Jacobson's team unveiled a plan for New York to achieve 100% clean energy by 2030. If New York and the rest of the world can do it, so can California.

The Golden State's abundant sunshine and robust clean tech sector are huge advantages that enable us to be the first state to hit the 100% target. I urge you to enact strong legislation that will dramatically accelerate the state’s clean energy revolution.

Thank you for your leadership on the most important issue of our time.

Sincerely,
