Haitian Children Deserve to Be Safe Instead of Vulnerable in Tent Cities

While the world’s attention may have moved on from Haiti, thousands of Haitians are barely surviving in tent cities with no running water and no electricity. Families live at a subsistence level, highly vulnerable to disease and despair.

Ruthless gangs control the tent cities and physical and sexual violence are the norm. Women are violated every day and it's far too dangerous for children to play outside. But what protection do these families really have when they live under a tarp draped over a few poles?

I am deeply concerned about Haitian children and families who are not safe living in tent cities.

These families deserve to be together, living in safety with clean water, nutritious food, and a school for children. Each suffering family desperately needs a new home in a place where a child's basic right to safety is not denied.
