Stop Female Genital Cutting

The cruel practice takes place mostly in Africa and occasionally in other parts of the world. Especially in the worst form of circumcision, infibulation, the girls often suffer from life-long physical and psychological consequences.

Types of female genital cutting

Type I: Removal of the clitoral hood only (female circumcision), or together with partial or total removal of the clitoris (clitoridectomy).

Type II: Removal of the clitoris together with part or all of the inner vaginal lips (excision).

Type III: Removal of part or all of the external genitalia and stitching or narrowing the
vaginal opening leaving only a small hole (infibulation)

Type IV: A variety of unclassified traumatic procedures of cutting, stretching, or piercing
performed on the external genitalia such as cauterization by burning of the clitoris
and surrounding tissue or scraping of tissue surrounding the opening of the vagina.

A draft reclassification currently under discussion includes a Type V, referring to symbolic practices that involve some form of pricking of the clitoris to release a few drops of blood.

The physical and mental results of the intervention
The intervention means for the girls inconceivable pains which show only the beginning of mostly lifelong subsequent problems. If the girls already don't die during the intervention or shortly after by shock and loss of blood or blood poisonings, it comes in the later life as a rule to chronic infections and extremely danderous complications in births.

This has to stop and save the girls a lot of suffering!
