Don't Make Americans Pay for Pollution

While the overwhelming chorus of Americans demands responsible green energy, the Trump administration wants to take the country in the opposite direction by focusing on one of the world's dirtiest sources of energy - coal. And brace yourself, his latest idea is a doozy.

Trump has moved to end regulations that required coal companies mining on federal land to pay fair market prices to the government for whatever coal they sold. This rule was put in place during the Obama era when the previous administration realized mining companies were using loopholes to pay far less than what they actually owed - 80% less to be exact.

Trump’s proposed policy means more coal mining in the US, more environmental degradation , more health problems caused by pollution, and to make matters worse, every day Americans would now be stuck with the tab - subsidizing coal companies worth millions if not hundreds of millions of dollars.

Time after time, our president has chosen to promote and support policies that benefit the few over the many and further destroy our climate. From his push to  strip protections from several national monuments only to hand them over to private companies to his withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord which will set our economy and our environment back decades.

We cannot sit back and watch as piece by piece our president dismantles years of smart environmental policy, only to stack the deck in favor of the 1%. Enough is enough.

Trump’s proposed gift to the coal industry will put money in the pockets of the filthy rich but leave the rest of America just plain filthy.

Sign the petition and tell Trump to back away from increasing coal mine subsidies that will cost Americans millions and further pollute our land, air and water.
