Bring Humanitarian Aid to War-Torn Darfur

Target: President Bush and the UN Secretary-General
Sponsored by: Save Darfur Coalition
Urgent update: Darfur is on the brink of war. It has been months since the government of Sudan agreed to let aid in to the suffering people of Darfur. But they have yet to follow through on this promise. All the while, the number of civilian deaths in this brutal civil war continues to climb.

A UN peacekeeping force remains the only hope to bring peace to the region. This force has already authorized by the UN Security Council, but they might never reach Darfur if the Sudanese government doesn't agree to let them in. That's why it's so important that our leaders demand that the peacekeepers are admitted.

The 2.5 million Darfuris that have been driven from their homes and are completely dependent on international aid for food, medical help, and shelter. But much of that aid has not been able to reach those who need it. Tell President Bush and the UN Secretary-General to stop the genocide in Darfur by putting international pressure on Sudan!

Dear [Decision Maker]

Everyday, the 2.5 million people chased from their homes in Darfur face the threat of starvation, disease, and rape, while the few lucky enough to remain in their homes risk displacement, torture, and murder. Therefore, we call on you to do the following:

- Push for the immediate deployment of the already-authorized UN peacekeeping force.

- Strengthen the understaffed African Union force already in Darfur until the UN force can be deployed.

- Increase humanitarian aid and ensure access for delivery.

- Establish a no-fly zone.

I used to think that I didn't want to know what was going on in other countries, but now I realize that I am part at fault to why America is in the dark on world issues. I should have been helping to get word out about what is going on in Darfur instead of ignoring it. What is happening there is Genocide and WE need to do something to change it. People say we should stay out of other countries problems, but if it wasn't for our help in Germany there would be no more Jewish people. Are we going to sit around and let this happen again? The one thing I have always believed makes our Country so great is the PEOPLE! Now is our time to pull together and help those who need it. Where are those GREAT people that America was founded on.

i DO NOT support this petition. the people of Sudan tear live chickens apart for 'SPORT'. any country that practises such an atrocious act of cruelty DOES NOT DESERVE any aid.

Im currently a freshman student in Bonney Lake, Washington. Bush needs to wake up and smell the smoke, the holocaust is repeating itself and we stand and watch? Bush needs to send in help before more innocent lives are take. If anyone asked Bush if genocide was acceptable, he would say no. So why doesnt he help?

As an aspiring fighter pilot for the IAF (Israeli Air Force), I have vowed to see that history never repeats itself. Just because Sudan has oil doesn't give them the right to commit genocide. I know that most government officials care only about money, but find it in your hearts to help. Is this the way America runs? Our victory in WWII means nothing if genocide is allowed to continue. We beat Saddam out of power in Iraq, so why can't we relieve the crisis in Darfur. We just need to help them to stay in good homes and not have to go to the concentration camps. Don't let Bush ignore the cries of those who truly need our help.
