Stop allowing people to sell animals or stud services on craigslist

Craiglsit needs to monitor the sale of animals or animal parts on the website. And stop depending entirely on the public to "flag" each and every post.

It is prohibited to post the sale of animals or parts of animals (and  semen is a 'part' of an animal) on craigslist but yet hundreds of people continue to list animals - mostly dogs from backyard breeders or puppymills - for sale. The only thing "we" can do on craiglist is flag them an HOPE that the posts are removed. But that rarely happens.

Craigslist should monitor this themselves and help put a stop to this form of animal abuse.

The only way that people will stop using animals as a (usually illegal) source of income is if there are fewer places for them to find the un-educated people who will buy them. These animals are usually not neutered or spayed, vaccinated, or even checked for breed specific health problems. They are often "sold" to other puppymills, backyard breeders, "gangs" that fight them or use them as bait (to teach the dogs how to fight and to build their confidence - thereby killing the dog or cat), or to labs to perform tests on them.

These people RARELY have breeders permits or kennel permits.

Legitimate breeders will not use this type of site to sell their AKC (or similar) registered animals. They have actual clients that they go to when their animal has offspring. THey will also perform home checks which is rarely the case with people who list on craigslist.

Craigslist pet section should be limited to things like...

  • requests for help with medical advice, or obedience issues
  • vets, pet related shops and vendors in their local area
  •  rescue organizations or private individuals that need, in dire situations, to re-home their pet,
  • announcements on upcoming events that are pet-related in your local community
  • searching for a lost pet or reported a found pet
  • searching to adopt a pet
  • animal related services (like dog sitting/walking)
  • other pet owning issues that have nothing to do with the SELLING of a pet or animal
