Right now, there's a bill in the state legislature, H245, which could be a game changer for renewable energy in North Carolina. If passed property owners could buy electricity directly from a renewable energy company, bypassing their utility.
H245 wouldn't just be good for our environment — it would also mean more local solar jobs for North Carolinians and reduce the need to build expensive new power plants, which drive high utility rates.
The bill has numerous Republican and Democratic sponsors — a welcome sign of bipartisan support. But of course, coal-giant Duke Energy is working overtime to stop this bill. Standing together, we can ensure our leaders listen to us — not big polluters.
