Tell Congress That America's Safety Depends on Wireless Access!

Target: US Congress
Sponsored by: Wireless Across America
You need to be able to count on cell phone coverage during an emergency.

Whether you live in an urban or rural community, cell phone service is critical to your family's safety. But, some rural communities lack adequate coverage.

Right now, Congress and the FCC are considering telecom policy changes that would jeopardize much-needed funding for wireless access.

Tell Congress and the FCC to protect funding for wireless coverage today!

Dear Congressperson,

I recently learned that the FCC is considering revisions to the Universal Service Fund that would limit or eliminate the portion of the fund that supports wireless services. Any changes to the USF that obstruct the growth of wireless access in rural America are unfair and detrimental to the economic growth of these communities and the public safety of their residents.

Wireless service isn't just about convenience. New technologies, like wireless broadband, promote the growth of rural businesses. Reliable wireless access is essential for businesspeople that spend time away from the office and on the road, and it will increase the likelihood that new businesses will open up in rural communities. Additionally, expanding and improving wireless coverage is critical to eliminate "dead spots" in rural areas. This would mean that rural consumers have the ability to call for assistance in an emergency, especially on the road or away from a landline phone.

Rural wireless users contribute to the USF, just as urban and suburban residents do. They deserve equal access to the same services that are available elsewhere. Please contact the FCC and let them know that Americans everywhere should have the same choice of services, regardless of the technology involved.

Wifi is progress and the way of the future. It is also the highest form of high-speed access, and decreases our security vulnerability immeasurably

It's one of the ironies of life that where you need your cellular coverage the most, is where you have the least or most unstable coverage -- remote areas, etc. I implore you to continue funding for universal coverage.
