The City of Memphis Animal Services has been busted once already in 2009. The Shelter Director left the city. Now, under the management of Matthew Pepper, the MAS has "gotten much better". For instance, from Jan. 1, 2011 to Apr. 12, 2011, the MAS killed over 3000 animals!42 died in their cages from neglect, 40 were "lost"(!) and a whopping 2 went into foster. Better for who???? For the Mayor, who feels that his constituency has other things to think about? For Matthew Pepper, Shelter Director, who makes over $90,000 per year for killing animals? CERTAINLYNOT BETTER FOR THE ANIMALS OF MEMPHIS!!!
TO: Mayor Wharton and the Memphis City Council: The people of America who love animals WILL BOYCOTT YOUR CITY until the killing stops. We will not recommend your city to anyone who is looking for a good vacation spot until Matthew Pepper and staff are replaced and the killing stops. We will tell all of our Elvis-loving friends to visit LAS VEGAS and see some of the wonderful Elvis impersonators, rather than go to Graceland. WE WILL NOT TOLERATE the abuses, death and grief that takes place EVERY DAY at Memphis Animal Services. We know that on some days, the killing goes on for almost an entire 8-hour shift! We know that animals are mishandled! We will remember EVERY FACE that is dragged off to the KILL ROOM, filled with fear. We will remember every time the tax-payers of Memphis are mollified by the line "I'm trying to do alot with a little" from Mr. Pepper and others. WE KNOW THAT YOU ARE A KILLING MACHINE AND WE WILL NOT RELENT UNTIL THE KILLING STOPS, AND THE SHELTER IS REFORMED COMPLETELY. We will not relent untill you make Memphis a No-Kill City!!! MEMPHIS - STOP THE KILLING!!!
