President Obama: Don't Appoint Fish Farm Supporter!

New Hampshire Republican Senator Judd Gregg is being strongly considered for Secretary of Commerce. The Secretary of Commerce position controls decision-making for U.S. ocean wildlife - for example, endangered marine species and commercial and recreational fishing.

Senator Gregg has been a strong supporter of offshore aquaculture - the mass production of fish in huge floating cages in ocean waters. He consistently expresses support for an experimental facility in New Hampshire and pushes for federal funding for ocean fish farming projects.

Putting a strong supporter of offshore aquaculture in charge of the Department of Commerce, which controls U.S. marine fish, is a bad idea. This could threaten fishing and recreational activities, the marine environment and coastal communities.

Tell President Obama to protect our oceans and not to choose Senator Gregg as Secretary of Commerce.
President Obama,

I urge you not to nominate Senator Judd Gregg for Secretary of Commerce. Senator Gregg has long been a proponent of open ocean aquaculture - a form of fish farming that involves the mass production of fish in cages floating in open ocean waters. Open ocean aquaculture can pose threats to marine ecosystems, and seriously jeopardize the health and economies of coastal communities nationwide.

Senator Gregg is not the change we need at the Department of Commerce. The Bush administration feverishly pushed numerous plans to allow open ocean aquaculture in U.S. waters for years - but overwhelming public opposition held back their finalization. Senator Gregg consistently expresses his support for an experimental open ocean aquaculture facility in New Hampshire and pushes for federal funding for ocean fish farming projects. There would be none of the promised change if you select Senator Gregg for Secretary of Commerce. I ask you not to nominate him.
