Tell NC Governor: New Fracking Rules Aren't Strong Enough!

Earlier this year, the NC Mining & Energy Commission proposed weak rules establishing a regulatory program for fracking (a controversial method of drilling for natural gas) in North Carolina. North Carolinians spoke up and submitted over 200,000 comments, and the overwhelming majority of those comments opposed fracking in North Carolina and noted weaknesses with the proposed rules.

On November 14, the Commission finalized the rules, and they are still woefully inadequate. The Commission did respond to public comments with a few modest improvements, but overall, the rules still will not protect against toxic air pollution, contamination of our streams and rivers, pollution of nearby groundwater wells, damage to communities, or violations of private property rights.

Take action today and tell Governor McCrory that these fracking rules aren’t right for North Carolina.
Dear Governor McCrory,

When you’ve spoken about North Carolina’s energy policy, you’ve said you support fracking ‘done safely’. The NC Mining & Energy Commission has finalized its fracking rules, and it is now very clear that, under these rules, fracking will endanger public health, the environment, and our communities.

As Governor, the buck stops with you to protect our state. Please use your authority to oppose North Carolina’s reckless rush to attract fracking. Our children deserve a better inheritance than polluted air and contaminated waters.

Thank you.
