Save the Hawaiian Monk Seal

The monk seal population of Hawaii's Kauai island once bordered on extinction. Thankfully, their population has started to recover, but they still number only about two hundred.

Despite their precarious status, these seals have no endangered species protection. What's worse, they are dying off at an alarming rate again. Why? They are being killed by humans.

Tell the Hawaii state legislature to give these seals the legal protection they need to be saved from extinction!

Right now, authorities are trying to solve the problem after it occurs. They are offering rewards for the capture of anyone murdering these seals. While this is a start, it does nothing to help the seals that have already been killed. So far, this system hasn't worked; law enforcement officials admit that they have not received a single tip, despite offering a reward.

Fines are not enough! We have to stop the problem before it starts. Write to the Hawaii state legislature and get these seals the legal protection they deserve.
Monk seals were once a flourishing, distinct facet of Hawaiian culture, but their numbers have drastically plummeted. In fact, only several hundred remain throughout the Hawaiian islands, a mere percentage of their previous population.

What's most disturbing about their rapid decline is the cause of it. These playful monk seals are being killed in droves every month, despite their endangered status. If we are really serious about saving our threatened animals, something preventative must be done.

There must be some way to proactively protect the seals, as our ability to track down culprits after they have killed the animals has proven less than adequate. I implore you to protect these vulnerable creatures.
