Did you know that almost half of all pregnancies in the U.S. are unplanned? The truth is that communication about contraception can be awkward -- but not as awkward as telling a partner that you're pregnant.
There are a lot of questions we are afraid to ask: What will he think if she's prepared with condoms? Is she shy about insisting on contraception because she doesn't want him to think she doesn't trust him? Is he embarrassed to ask if she ever misses a pill?
Let's face it -- if it's hard for two people to talk openly about birth control, it would be a lot harder to have a child together.

When my daughter turned 13 I talked to her about birth control. I wasn't going to wait for her to go to high school to learn. She was at the end of 7th grade when I showed her a condom and taught her about them and told them where she can get them, and if needed, not to ever be afraid to come to me for birth control.

Nobody "likes" abortion, but it needs to be done sometimes. Contraception might be socially risky for some to talk about too openly, but fitting in isn't worth the risk of disease and pregnancy. A baby might be a trendy toy to some, but an expensive responsibility to all.

We had to call the police on a LDS convert (pregnant) who went through her roommates purses and found out they carried condoms.
THe Church does not address this--but it does stress a self esteem that the pregnant girl didn't have. And you know what they say about E.V. Girls. We need to stop living in a fantasy world and protect our children and ourselves from the grave consequences of STD's through public education and deal seriously with our main source of domestic terrorists and terrorism.

There is no responsibility for having sex nowadays. Couples have to pledge to speak openly about sex and contraception with each other. Thus we have so many unwanted pregnancies if this is not addressed. There is no thought for their partner or for the possible conceiving of a child if couples don't discuss this openly with one another.
