To those who are affected by homehealth care today as well as tomorrow. Are you aware of the new overtime laws that are currently affecting our home health workers and system?? Gov, Como recently passed a law requiring all homehealth care workers receive time and half for every hour over 40 worked. This sounds great , right??? Do you understand the impact this law has on reality? The reality is that the homehealth care workers who are use to and WANT to work 50, 60 ,70 hours per week are reduced to 40. The reason for the reduction in work hours is because agencies can not afford to pay overtime and stay in business. For example imagine your loved one has had in home care for 2 years with the same homecare worker . This worker becomes like family. The trust is there, the care is there and the love is there. Now due to overtime laws and inability for agencies to afford to pay overtime, your caring , trusting caregiver will be reduced to 40 hours a week and an additional new care taker will be added. The impact of this is not only affecting your loved one but now your caretaker who was earning a decent living for one family will now have to seek out another family to make up difference in salary. The safety and wellbeing of our loved ones will be directly effected. For every live in case , there will be anywhere from 2 to 3 homecare workers. This is to keep the cost of overtime down. The quality of care will decrease due to the quantity of workers needed. The goal of home healthcare is to maintain people in a safe , healthy and consistent environment. The opposite will occur and is occurring due to this overtime law. Together we can stand united and have our voices heard on behalf of our loved ones utilizing home care today and tomorrow. Lets regain control over our loved ones care and provide them with quality not quantity !!! If home care agencies go out of business due to this overtime law, who will take care of your loved one???  YOU MUST THINK ABOUT IT!!!
