Be an Advocate for Animal 'Actors'

Animal 'actors' may have agents, but what about advocates?

Tragically, some terrible abuses have happened while filming movies and TV shows. Even worse, they happened simply for the sake of creating realistic scenes in movies.

American Humane Association's highly trained Certified Animal Safety Representatives^TM work hard overseeing more than 1,000 productions a year through an exclusive contract with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). But they do not have the resources to be on every film set with animals.

As a result, there are student films, or films made overseas, or independent films that potentially involve defenseless animals. These animals desperately need advocates who care about them -- not about getting the "right shot."

My sister and I was thinking about this last night about 2 specific movies....One just happens to be one of my favorite movies; has since as far back as I can remember...I even know all the words to the movie! Its Homeward Bound <---(this one is my fav.) and Milo and Otis. In Homeward Bound when Sassy was in the river...that wasn't fake. That was a real cat in a real river. I don't know if the cat going down the waterfall was real, but if it was, that really pisses me off! (Sorry for the language) That poor cat really could have died..I wouldn't be surprised if it did! Also, when Shadow fell down that whole; I mean how can an animal fake being hurt? I know that hurt his leg! And in Milo and Otis, that whole movie was like that! getting chased by a bear, pecked at by seagulls, jumping off the cliff into the water to get away from the birds...That kills me about both of those movies...If anyone knows if they're fake or not, please let me know. I will be able to sleep peacefully knowing those animals were/are okay =]

I'm a firm believer in animals being treated humanely, be it as pets, or as unwilling "actors". Just the other day I saw a TV shows where someone deliberately stepped on a dozen or so of those huge Madagascar cockroaches just for effect. It seemed as though the producers wanted it to be funny, but it was just plain sick. Even bugs deserve better treatment. I support you in your efforts to make sure animals are handled fairly with respect.

How could anyone think of animals as being a means to an end financially? This makes me ill, these animals have the same rights as humans, it is for humans to protect the rights of those without voices, not exploit them, or allow them to be harmed.

I would not buy/watch a movie if I would know an animal has been abussed in any way during it's making! Furthermore, I would not buy any movie from a studio/crew who would have been abusing animals during their activity.

Another shock to me to find out that even these animals are abused!!! WHY FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE?!! Perfection doesn't exist so don't try to get a perfect shot, rather focus on getting the right message accorss and abuse is not the right message, besides the fact that it doesn't acooplish anything.
