Protect the Clean Power Plan to Fight Climate Change

The Clean Power Plan is one of the most important actions America has taken to address the climate crisis, placing our country's first-ever national limits on the dangerous carbon pollution flowing from America's fossil fuel-fired power plants. And it has broad support.

Not only did 8 million Americans write to EPA supporting these and other crucial limits on climate pollution, but poll after poll shows that Americans all across this country—in red and blue states alike—broadly support clean air, clean energy, and climate progress. In fact, more than two-thirds of voters favor federal action to reduce the emissions of pollutants that cause climate change.

Take Action: Tell Administrator Pruitt to back down from any efforts to dismantle the Clean Power Plan, the centerpiece of America's climate pollution reduction policies.

I support the Clean Power Plan

Dear Administrator Pruitt,

I am deeply troubled by recent attacks on the landmark Clean Power Plan, one of the most important actions America has taken to reduce climate pollution. Not only does this plan address the climate crisis--something you yourself have said is a "legal obligation" of the EPA--it does so in a way that gives states great flexibility in how they meet their pollution reduction goals.

More than 8 million Americans submitted public comments supporting carbon standards and the Clean Power Plan. There is strong, diverse support for the Clean Power Plan, even in states currently suing over the standards. According to a 2016 Bloomberg poll in four key states (Florida, Michigan, Missouri, and Wisconsin), there is widespread support for the Clean Power Plan in each state. Overall, more than two-thirds of American voters favor federal action to reduce emissions of pollutants that cause climate change.

As the Administrator of the EPA, I implore you to listen to the will of the people. Now is not the time to go backward. The Clean Power Plan will unleash innovation and make America more competitive in the 21st century. I strongly urge you to back down from attacking this landmark pollution reduction standard.
