Tell Congress to Protect Our Digital Privacy

Your digital information—including emails, documents, photos, and more—is increasingly stored on cloud computing servers located all over the world. Who can access your communications and data? Shouldn't government agencies be required to have a search warrant to read your email—just as they must to read a paper letter sent by mail?

U.S. authorities argue that they can access information held in other countries without a search warrant - and that other countries can assert the same right.

This raises a host of privacy concerns.

Our legal system and federal law enforcement should discourage and prevent—not encourage—other nations from directly accessing data stored in the U.S. by American citizens.

The Law Enforcement Access to Data Stored Abroad Act (LEADS Act) strikes a balance between the needs of law enforcement and those of private citizens. This bill allows for data protection and privacy, protects due process, and respects the laws of other nations. Passage of the LEADS Act would be an important step in ensuring that the privacy of electronic communications by citizens is protected and respected.

Doesn't our digital information deserve the same privacy protections as letters sent by mail? Support the LEADS Act to protect your privacy in the digital age. Take action now!
Dear [Representative],

I am writing today to voice my strong support for the Law Enforcement Access to Data Stored Abroad Act (LEADS Act). I encourage you to co-sponsor and support this important legislation.

[Your comment will be added here]

Email communications and other digital content deserve the same privacy protections as paper letters sent by mail. The LEADS Act will ensure this protection by requiring law enforcement to obtain search warrants to access private data stored by cloud computing services. LEADS strikes an important balance between the needs of law enforcement and those of private citizens.

Once again, I urge you to support the LEADS Act to ensure data protection and privacy, protect due process, and respect the laws of other nations. Thank you.

Sincerely,
