America's Veterans Deserve Adequate Medical Care

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: AMA Patients' Action Network
Service members fighting for our country shouldn't have to worry about their families' health care. But millions of military patients and their families are already having trouble finding physicians. Since TRICARE, the military insurance plan for active and retired military members and their families, is tied to Medicare, future doctor payment cuts will cause even greater harm to their health care quality. Unless Congress acts now, future doctor payment cuts will deprive these heroes of the health care they need and deserve. Help protect service members' access to doctors!

Success! With bi-partisan majorities in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, Congress over-turned the president’s veto of Medicare doctor payment cuts on July 15, 2008.

Dear [Decision maker],

On behalf of America's service members and their families, I strongly urge you to stop Medicare doctor payment cuts.

Medicare doesn't even reimburse doctors at a level equal to the cost of treating patients. And, recent reports predict that the government will cut the rates further - by 10 percent in 2008, and a whopping 40 percent by 2015!

Past cuts have made it more difficult for service members to find a doctor. Future doctor payment cuts will force doctors to limit the number of new Medicare patients they treat, will make it more difficult to find surgical and medical specialists and will force seniors to travel greater distances for medical care.

My husband and son are veterans. It would be shameful to "thank" them for their service by cutting access.

Because my little sister is one the US vetrens of war and so are alot of other families members as well. I think the military would do everything they could to take care of our people who fight and put their lives on the line.

Our men have been injured or died for fighting for what the government says is our freedom. Do not forget you are also the people of this nation cut the red tape and proveide them with the medical care they need. Or else you are a farse by sending them out to death and injury. And if you are the farse perhaps you need to leave America!

When you contract with the men and women to serve our country, they deserve the care needed to be useful citizens after they return from duty for the rest of their lives.
