Theresa May: Make ending child homelessness a priority this Christmas

  • by: Shelter

I was evicted by my landlord when I was 8 months pregnant. I felt totally alone and had no choice but to move into a bedbug-infested B&B, above a pub.

Thankfully I got in touch with the charity Shelter, who helped to expose the terrible conditions I was living in. After this the council quickly moved me and my kids out of the filthy B&B.

But unfortunately my story doesn't end there.

Due to the limited availability of housing, the council moved us to yet more temporary accommodation. This was miles away from the kid's schools and all of their friends and family. It was safer than the B&B, but the place was cramped and freezing cold. It didn't even have a working cooker.

When I found out that we would have to spend Christmas there I was devastated.

There's no place like home at Christmas. But 120,000 children in Britain will wake up homeless on Christmas morning. Join me in calling on the Prime Minister to make ending child homelessness a priority.
