There's been no shortage of news stories about the tough economic times affecting this country.
But behind the headlines about foreclosures, unemployment and inflation lies the real story - the story of families and children who desperately need help. Sometimes under such duress parents make choices they wish they hadn't and children get hurt or don't get their basic needs met.
American Humane's Front Porch Project represents hope for vulnerable children. It's a proven training program that brings community members together, giving them the knowledge and tools it takes to support each other through tough times and keep children safe.
The Front Porch Project has already had a huge impact in Florida, where its implementation has affected more than 10,000 children in the Tampa area.

We are all suffering in this bad economy and the children do not understand. While we fight abroad we starve at home.

We claim that the children are our greatest asset, yet we are not willing to pay to protect them.

I know very little about this program and do not have time to research it, but I do know that there is tremendous need to protect children from poverty, hunger, lack of affordable healthcare, and abuse.
