Is Congress Preparing to Cut Vital Hospital Care?

More than 33 million people were admitted to hospitals in 2013. 133 million people sought care in E.Rs.

Hospitals play a critical role in communities all over America. But right now they are in trouble, and we need to help before it is too late.

Congress is considering cutting billions of dollars in vital hospital care as part of an adjustment to the historically flawed formula by which physicians are paid under Medicare. This is on top of the $122 billion hospitals have been cut since 2010 alone.

The impact on patients would be significant. Cuts could reduce access to the best medical technology, lead to longer wait times for services, and cause staff reductions. We simply cannot afford this.

We need to reach Congress before they reach a decision. Tell Congress: If you value the health and well-being of your constituents, it's time to stop cutting America's hospitals.
Dear [Representative]:

As you consider an adjustment to the sustainable growth rate (SGR), I urge you not to include cuts to vital hospital services as part of any deal.

Strong hospitals are critical to communities all across America. More than 33 million people were admitted to hospitals in 2013. 133 million sought care in E.Rs. Many of them were your own constituents, who received world-class care when they needed it most.

That’s why I’m appalled that Congress may cut hospital care again, on top of the $122 billion that has been cut since 2010 alone. When hospitals are cut, patient care suffers.

Please protect hospitals in your state. Do not include cuts to hospital services as part of the SGR "Doc Fix" deal.

Thank you,
