DCFS...STOP DRUGGING OUR CHILDREN

Every day children are torn away from the arms of their parents by Juvenile Protection. These children suffer anguish in state care while their parent's case is pending in the court. They are traumatized as any child would be by the sudden loss of their family and the only life they have known.

It is wrong to force perfectly healthy and normal children to ingest psychotropic drugs to mask the symptoms of their loss. Many of these drugs are not FDA approved for use in persons under the age of 18, yet they are given to children as young as 2-years-old. Really! A two-year-old with Bi-Polar Disorder?

Or are these simply children suffering from normal grief and anxiety over the loss of their families? Think how your own child would react if they were whisked away by strangers. They would suffer all the same emotions as in a case of child abduction.

Up to 40% of children in state care will be diagnosed with a disorder of some sort that requires Prozac, Depakote, or other mood-altering drug. These drugs can have serious side effects such as nightmares, mood swings, suicide ideation, liver damage, and renal failure. These very statistics alone are a red flag that there is something seriously wrong with this system.

When children are diagnosed with psychiatric illness, it opens the door to more government funding as they are declared "special needs." These programs are funded by ensuring a high volume of "clients." This is a clear conflict of interest. The more children diagnosed, the more programs and caseworkers, the more employment and money available to the agencies.

Many of these formerly healthy children are reduced to mere shells of their former selves. They become withdrawn and suicidal. A once happy, healthy child now entertains thoughts of taking their own life. Not long ago, a 7-year-old hung himself in the bathroom while on these drugs. When does a 7-year-old commit suicide?

This incomprehensible and medically unethical drugging of American children must stop!
