Save Our Earth - Taxable Plastic Bag in Supermarkets

As a regular patron of one of my nearby NTUC and Shop N Save, intolerance sights of having shoppers senselessly pulling off excessive sheet of plastic bags from the rollers, packing a small little Snicker bar into a plastic bag where the bag is immediately dispose off straight outside the supermarket are still common. You only have to stand near the counters to notice the bewildering number of plastic bags used up every minutes. Pleasant sight of having shoppers carrying recyclable and reusable bags is still rather rare.
Since 2006, Singapore had launched the first national campaign to reduce usage of plastic bags. Thereafter, many educational campaigns have been repeatedly launched to raise environmental awareness among our people.
Yet, undesirable sights as above are still common.
At this point of time, it seems to me that enforcement might be more effective than moral persuasion and I do admit that such measures should not be in long-term. I hope when enforcement eventually becomes an entrenched habit, a greener culture will be evolved and moral persuasion can be restored.
Now, I sincerely request you to sign this petition in support the idea of a 10 cents charge on single use plastic bags on all supermarkets in Singapore.
Thanks.
I, the undersigned citizen, respectfully request that your authority to impose a 10 cents charge on single use plastic bags on all supermarkets in Singapore.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and I hope some actions can be taken.

Sincerely, The Petition Signers, YAU Tuck Wai
