Tell Automakers Why You Want Green Cars Today

Target: CEOs of world's six largest automakers, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Nissan, Toyota
Sponsored by: The Center for a New American Dream
The need for fuel-efficient cars has never been greater. With just four percent of the world's population, the United States consumes a quarter of global oil consumption; U.S. passenger vehicles alone guzzle 10 percent of the world's oil! We spent $250 billion on this oil habit last year alone, and as a result we're less secure, more polluted, and economically weaker.

Existing technology such as advanced hybrid engines could dramatically decrease our oil consumption -- if only more automakers would grasp the urgency of the situation and incorporate efficient technology in many more vehicles.

Think about the people, places, and things that would be better off if automakers do their part to help us break our oil dependence and transition to a more sustainable future. Then encapsulate these images into your favorite art form, or just a simple note, and add that to this petition. We'll deliver your comments and images to Detroit and Tokyo. We want Bill Ford, Rick Wagoner, and the other CEOs to truly grasp what's at risk... and to respond.

To: the chief executives of the world's six largest automakers - DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Nissan and Toyota

Dear Automakers,

The attached photos, drawings, poems, and pleas represent the people, places, and things we most treasure who are jeopardized by a "business as usual" approach to energy use. Please pause and deeply consider what is at stake here, then show leadership in publicly committing to bring far more efficient vehicles to market.

Sincerely,

The undersigned
We signed the “Tell Automakers Why You Want Green Cars Today” petition!

I want it because I don't believe the automaker's claim that the technology doesn't exist for extremely fuel efficient cars. Engineering (college) students have been creating cars much more fuel efficient than the major automakers for decades now, and it's egregious to continue manipulating us when there are no more reasons left to maintain the status quo. The market no longer demands SUVs and Hummers. It's time to wake up to what the Japanese learned long ago.

Because they (automakers) went through and bought all of the land with public transportation (i.e. railroads) and ripped up the tracks so the public would rely on more autos

We, THE WORLD, need to stop the massive use of agents like oil. A car is ALREADY a turbine for air... (incorporate partial wind energy) and we are CONSTANTLY outside in the suns rays (incorporate small amouts of solar strips that don't look tacky). There are ALREADY cars that can be charged up with electricity...so why are we not combining these efforts to create a car that USES LESS HARMFUL RESOURCES, and CREATES LESS POLUTION. We most likely can't completly cut the use of the agents (oil) in our cars, but I'd bet everything I've ever earned that we have, and HAVE HAD that ability to do so for some time. STOP THE GREED, and SAVE OUR WORLD. I only use caps to stress points that need stressing. I won't yell about this, because that wont get us anywhere. I will continue to ask until the changes are made. Thank you GREATLY for taking the time to read this letter.

The oil industry is a bully! They are! I am 53 and I have heard enough to know! I am also sick and tired of bullies! Especially Bush and Cheney! So I am standing up to them any way I can. You are aware of why our country was dragged into this senceless war as much as all of the other American people, greed! And oil! That smelly black stuff that made some in this country too wealthy for their own good or common sence! Now we hear about global warning! And some of these scientists that have spoken on the subject seem to be quite correct and say we have just about ten years until -ITS TOO LATE! I wonder if that isn't so now. I won't be able to aford a green car of vehicle because I am poor, but I tell ya if the big fat oil companies hand been so selfish this idea might have come along in 1969 when I was in the 6th grade the fear we all had then were only speculation and not about to become reality! I saw those pictures of the polar bears on melting ice burges to and back in my childhood there were only drawings of that! Now its photos! I don't want it any worse. Do you? We have to do SoMeThIng! And we have to do it NOW! Thank you and please Try to come up with new GREEN cars and Trucks -surely there's a way!

Stop fighting CAFE regulations and take the need for electric and hybrid cars seriously. Peak oil is coming SOON.

I recently discovered that GM has a prototype pickup truck that gets 100 mpg through a carburation system. It was mistakenly purchased by a man. Under the hood was prototype stamped all over the entire engine. General Motors found the owner and made a deal with the man to get that vehicle back. They will not release this prototype to the public because of the oil companies. I believe it is time for every concerned American to stand up and say you are tired of this corruption in our society from politicians to corporations. They don't care about the enviroment just the almighty dollar.

Green cars reduce the impact we have on the planet. Safe to say it would be a very welcome change to old/current polluting cars, because it allows people to continue living their current lifestyle while protecting the planet. We need this shift in technology to occur quickly and efficiently if we are to stabalise the planet and ensure a greener future for the next generation. This is not a problem, it is a challenge and a fantastic opportunity to show just how great you automakers can be!

Its the only type of car I will buy. I have no interest in purchasing anything thats harmful to the environment. The world is waking up to its horrible plight...companies out there need to remember their own sustainability is at stake of they are not environmentally and globally ethical.

so our country does not have to be held hostage by these towel heads from these countries any longer for oil. we go green we can kiss them all good bye and they can have their oil and they are welcome to it. let them cry in their own spilt milk for a while. also the environment is a fragile thing. never take more from the earth then any one person needs. to do this is wrong.
