Show Illinois That Corporations Can Be Socially Responsible

Too often, corporations are legally prevented from considering society and the environment in addition to the needs of their shareholders. But Benefit Corporation legislation would make it possible for companies to create structures that are both profitable and socially responsible.

This year the Illinois Legislature passed a bill that could make Illinois the 10th state to allow businesses to operate as Benefit Corporations. Under the legislation, benefit corporations would be required to pursue a positive material impact on society and the environment as assessed against a third party standard.

Help show Illinois that corporations can be both socially friendly and highly profitable. Tell the Governor to pass Benefit Corporation legislation!
I am writing to urge you to support SB2897/HB4708, the legislation that would allow businesses to organize as Benefit Corporations. This legislation, which is modeled on laws enacted in 9 other states including New York and California, would encourage companies to pursue a positive material impact on society and the environment. It would also push an increase in corporations' purposefulness, accountability, and transparency with regard to society and the environment.
