Stop Fiscal Irresponsibility - Washington Needs a Fiscal Wakeup

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Peter G. Peterson Foundation

Stuck in a $53 trillion fiscal hole that gets deeper by $2 or $3 trillion a year, America is on an unsustainable path. By 2040, we will be unable to adequately fund education, national defense and other programs our families rely on every day. We must change course, and we need your help. Tell Washington politicians to stop making unfunded promises and to address the rising health care costs that will financially cripple our great nation.

With 78 million baby boomers reaching retirement, the time to act is now, before we leave future generations footing their bill. Help reverse the course and wake up Washington! Please send a letter to Congress now and ask them the tough questions about how they plan to fix the looming fiscal crisis and prevent the foreclosure on our future.

Dear Senators and Representatives,

It has come to my attention that the federal government is in a $53 trillion financial hole that grows by $2 trillion to $3 trillion every year for lack of action by Washington politicians. That amounts to a burden of $175,000 on every American citizen.

These are just a few of many unnerving figures offered in a new primer titled "The State of the Union's Finances", published by the nonpartisan Peter G. Peterson Foundation. I understand that every member of Congress is being provided with a copy of this publication. It can also be found online at www.pgpf.org. I encourage you to read it, if you have not already done so.

After you read it, I respectfully request that you tell me what you are doing to defuse the ticking time bomb that is the federal government's financial condition. I would appreciate answers to these specific questions as well:

We would like to know how you plan to make accountable those who are receiving government assistance in the financial crisis, such as the financial institutions and, potentially, the auto industry. We would like to see the prosecution of the the financial industry executives responsible for deceiving the American public and destroying their financial futures by way of deceit, corruption, and strategic manipulation of the mortgage-backed securities. If held financially accountable and made to pay restitution for their illegal activity, the taxpayers would not hold the burden of bail-out, but those responsible for creating the crisis could held financially responsible for their own actions, therefore solving the crisis with their own pocket books. I believe their astronomic investment accounts and salaries could cover this cost, sparing the innocent, the tax-payers, from bailing them out. They should be treated as the criminals that they are, and stripped of their gains made though deception. We would also like prosecution and and or/termination of all individuals in the security and exchange commissions for failing uphold their duties. I respectfully demand efficiency, transparency, accountability, and elimination of waste in order to re-build the nation’s economy. We would like to know everything you are doing with our money, and what you plan to do with it in the future.

All I'm asking is that the politicians work together for the good of this beautiful country and it's people. I expect honesty! I expect to hear/read what's going to be done, how, and regular updates. The people proved that they are not sheep to led to destruction/distraction. It's not business as usual and we are watching you.

I trust the changes include our representatives contributing to social security like main street, paying the same high premiums the general public has to pay, and not being paid an assinine amount of retirement. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
