Stop Medicare Waste, Fraud and Abuse!

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: NCPSSM
In the face of unprecedented federal deficits, Medicare spending is now considered by some to be a threat to our economic security and a target for "reform" and spending cuts.

But one of the best ways to protect Medicare spending is to prevent waste and fraud, funneling the money we already have allocated to the Americans who actually need it. Indeed, an inspector general's report indicates that an estimated $2.8 billion in federal Medicare spending in 2006 was improper - and auditors were told to ignore established policies that would have detected the waste.

This evidence of abuse to the Medicare system cannot be tolerated! Improper Medicare spending hurts patients who really need it - and causes our government to fall more and more into debt. Tell Congress they must protect the benefits we have earned - so Medicare funds go to people who really need them!

Dear [Senator or Representative],

In the face of unprecedented federal deficits, Medicare spending is now considered by some to be a threat to our economic security and a target for "reform" and spending cuts. But one of the best ways to protect Medicare spending is to prevent waste and fraud, funneling the money we already have allocated to the Americans who actually need it.

I am horrified to read of the $2.8 billion in improper federal Medicare spending in 2006. Not only is this fiscal irresponsibility bad for government spending, it also harms the very people Medicare is trying to help - the elderly and those with disabilities who need health care the most. I urge you to ensure Medicare funds go to whom they are meant.

I look forward to hearing your plan to protect these programs for current and future retirees. As my elected representative, please oppose all threats to my retirement.

Sincerely,

i think the system is rampant with fraud, doctors know they won't get what they ask for if they put a reasonable figure, so they Explode that figure to get what they wish, I am sick to see what Medicare pays to my doctors for all procedures and visits, sometimes it's like I am buying them a New Mamogram Machine just in one test, and office visits are paid at such a High Figure,if costs were controlled, things would be much better, that 1000 dollar tounge depressor is just crazy,.... and 2ooo.00 for a mamogram test is crazy also,.. maybe one day the officials that run these programs will get a clue.. hopefully there will still be these programs by then.

Why not use a volunteer group to audit claims before they are paid. I know that if criminals knew that each claim needed the patient to ok the payment, there would be a significant savings to all of us who appreciate the spirit of Medicare and want the program to remain healthy.

Medicare needs to care for the people now and those in the future can receive benefits too. Stop the fraud, please.

i happen to know several people who are abusing medicare/medicaid many people will dr shop and that makes it difficult for those who really need care to get it the mental health agencies are also ones who just because one has medicare coverage they percribe these poor people with an over abundance of drugs that is just wrong we must focus on the helth care providers to stop this waste of federal funding

I am disabled from a hereditary rare bone disease and an auto accident. Living on social security at age 31 was emotionally debilitating too, but knowing that others were living off it who shouldn't be while I have to when I wish I didn't need to is so frustrating. Knowing that the government is so irresponsible with the money is purely wrong. There are so many people out there like me who depend on this, even though we wish we didn't have to.

Many fraudulent doctors visit or claim to visit nursing homes regularly and routinely charge Medicare for many patients who are not seen or treated. We need a core of volunteers or service workers who regularly and effectively check on the and report on many aspects of the treatment of nursing home residents.

Medicare does not need to pay for all the "sexual fixes" for men or "boob jobs" for women or other such non real medical needs. Face lifts and facial repair are two different things and only one is needed. Guess which one!

Why is there money for the war, why did President Obama give 900 million to Hamas and why did Hillary Clinto give 200 million to the Palestians? This is a disgrace and an embarrassment. Washington has free health. What do they contribute? An outrage. Let the gov't pick up medicare. I have medicare and AARP who is deducting $235.00 from my ss/disability check. I cannot afford this. Let the gov't pitch in. Let the Americans have free medical just like the Senators.
