Take a Stand and Demand Clean Energy Future

In the mid-Atlantic, almost 50% of our electricity is powered by coal, and nuclear energy and natural gas aren't far behind. Pennsylvania historically has been one of the nation's biggest coal mining regions and is now the epicenter of fracking in the Northeast. If we want to curb global warming and pollution, we need to take action today.

Coal-fired power plants produce a number of dangerous pollutants like nitrogen oxide, mercury, and particulates. Cities with high concentrations of nitrogen oxide have a death rates four times higher than those with lower concentrations. Every year, between 300,000 and 600,000 children are born with blood mercury levels so high that they face neurological impairment. And particulates from coal plants cause 554,000 asthma attacks every year.

But as consumers, we have a choice. The money we spend gives us the leverage to create change. If we stand up and demand wind and solar energy, we can create a cleaner, healthier world.

Here at Groundswell, communities told us that the clean power services that they wanted were too expensive. So we brought them together into a group, and using the group’s power, we negotiated affordable prices for clean electricity.

For the sake of our health and our planet, take a stand today. Demand that energy companies transition to renewable energy sources.
