AMENDMENT TO ZONING TO CLASSIFY FRATERNITIES AND SORORITIES AS SPECIAL USE

Urge ACC Commissioners to vote yes on the amendment to zoning regulations to classify fraternities and sororities as special use.
Dear Athens-Clarke County Commissioners,

We ask you to support the amendment to the zoning ordinance to classify Fraternity/Sorority Organizations as a Special Use in all Athens-Clarke County zonings.

Nine Fraternities are required to move off of UGA property in less than 2 years. Three Fraternities have already purchased property in Athens-Clarke County. A typical fraternity houses 50 members and has over a 150 active members. Under the Panhellenic Council rules, they are allowed 3 times a semester to have 3 times the number of active members to a function at the house that may include alcohol. Every year new members join, and it will fall on the city residents' shoulders to guide them through the process of being good neighbors. With this large burden, we respectfully request a say in where these unique organizations will best fit into our town. This decision can adversely affect many neighborhoods that currently live in agreement with our University neighbor.

VOTE YES FOR AMENDMENT TO ZONING TO CLASSIFY FRATERNITIES AND SORORITIES AS SPECIAL USE.
