The community of Santa Monica and all proprietors are being giving the run around on solving the issues relating to the overwhelming influx of homeless inundating the city. With services being cut such as the mental institutions to house and take care of those who need 24 hour management and various other services regarding those with out a home for various reasons that are beyond their control for many of them such as lack of jobs, housing, insufficient income and educational deficiencies to name a few. It is abundantly clear that the issue is not being solved by the continuing harassment of the local law enforcers for non criminal activity such as sleeping/"camping" in any and all places relative to the city there of. It is the basic fundamental right to be able to sleep without permission anywhere if "adequate" housing is not provided for the individual and that person has the right to refuse shelter if the place in question can be detrimental to the persons physical property and well being...i.e. catching illnesses from others in the confines of said shelter pertaining to but not limited to the flu, tuberculosis, measles, and others as well as spreading the inflammation or infestation of bedbugs, roaches, spiders among other insects. It is imperative that the city fixes the situation through using its funds to create more housing, jobs or mental facilities as opposed to temporary shelters to get the homeless off the streets. Until then we the people ask that the homeless be left alone in regards to sleeping and or "camping" if those who are doing so are not destroying property, littering and disrupting surrounding businesses as well as residences.
Not allowing the homeless to lay down to sleep leads to increasing health related issues such as edema, cogenitive heart disease, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, among others. We need your help...many of us desire not to be homeless. With your support we can force the city of Santa Monica to spend its funds on facilities to house the mentally ill rather than on parking garages. Due to the Ellis act more people are being forced to be homeless and they too will find it difficult as we have to do what every human being has the right to do and be able to sleep peacefully without fear of the police. In closing I suggest to you that the lack of precious sleep is hurting the individuals who want to work but can't because lack of sleep leads to irritability, social dysfunctions, health related issues that may hinder them to stand on their feet for long periods as a result of edema...etc....Only you can make a difference...because what they are doing now isn't working. Thank you, sincerely yours Kevin Badway.
