Protect Fish Today!

Just over one year ago, in an unprecedented attack on nature and democracy, Canada passed a far-reaching bill that repealed or weakened most of Canada's foundational environmental laws, including changes that "took the guts" out of the Fisheries Act and threatened the survival of iconic species like salmon.

But people from every corner of our nation stood up for our lakes, rivers and fish: The outcry and concern was so great that the federal government has never implemented its planned changes to the Fisheries Act that would weaken fish habitat protection.

All this could change if we don't speak out today.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has indicated that within weeks existing protections for fish habitat could be repealed and replaced by the new weaker rules. Please, sign today to send a message calling on the federal government to maintain strong legal protection for fish and their habitat.
Subject: It's time to do the right thing for fish

Dear Prime Minister Harper:

Over the past year Canadians from every corner of our nation have raised concerns about new Fisheries Act provisions that weaken legal protection for fish and their habitat.

We may come from different political backgrounds, from rural or urban communities, work in the fishing industry or simply use and appreciate the lakes and rivers of our vast country for fishing and recreation, but we speak with one voice in urging you not to bring into force Bill C-38 Fisheries Act amendments that put fish at risk.
