No Backing Down: We'll Fight for Climate Justice and Women's Rights

Donald Trump is in denial.

Despite his nasty campaign rhetoric, his misogyny, and lurid descriptions of sexual assault, Trump claims to be a champion for women. He's also in denial about climate change, calling it "a hoax made by the Chinese."

This double dose of denial is especially dangerous for women. Unequal access to quality medical care, property ownership, and employment means women are often most impacted by climate disasters. In addition to an expected intensification of attacks on women's rights under the Trump administration, women in the United States and around the world will continue to be disproportionately impacted by climate change and extreme weather.

In order to solve something as enormous as the climate crisis, we need everyone. This starts with defending human rights. When women and girls are equipped with necessary tools like healthcare, education, and energy, we fulfill the potential for women to lead on climate solutions from local to international levels.

Let's send a strong message today – one that even Donald Trump will find hard to deny.

Add your name: We won't back down as we fight for women’s rights and climate justice.
We Won't Stand for Climate Denial, Bigotry, and Mistreatment of Women

Women's equality is a paramount concern for democracy, and denial of climate change is a direct threat to gender equality in the United States and around the world. Women are impacted first and worst by climate disasters. Due to gender norms, existing inequalities and limited access to resources, women are too often ill-prepared to protect themselves and their families. That's why gender equality is critical to addressing climate destruction from local to international levels.

We denounce President-Elect Donald Trump's dangerous rhetoric around women and climate change. Violating women and ignoring the science around climate change makes for a toxic mix that threatens American leadership on both women's rights and climate action. We reject Donald Trump's appeals to misogyny, hatred, and ignorance and will resist his attempts to dismantle women’s rights and climate action.

Furthermore, we resolve to stand with communities threatened by the President-Elect's short-sighted and divisive policies. Muslim, Immigrant, African American, Native and LGBTQIA women are mobilizing to protect their communities. We all must work together to realize a more livable world – one free of fear, intimidation, and violence. The Sierra Club is committed to standing with women of all backgrounds to ensure that no community is singled out for hatred or discrimination.
